Metaphor on Grammar

Grammar is like the icing on the cake. Literally it means 'the second great thing happens in addition to the first'. The cake is the basic foundation of language which includes all the skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) plus vocabulary. You can have a big and tall cake but if the icing is done untidily, it won't look good. The icing gives the cake its real value. It makes the cake look delicious, even the tiniest cupcake.

I'm the chef who can teach my students how to make a good icing, the colours they can choose and introduce them to other toppings (cherry, candies, sugar etc.) However, it's their responsibilities to decorate their own cake - whether they can be a good writer or speaker.

They can always ask for my advice and I'll correct them on their techniques. We have the same goal: to be able to create a masterpiece one day.

02 Podcast for Listening and Speaking

Types of transportation

This is a conversation between Cik Salmah (as the teacher) with Mary, Mala and Kamal regarding types of transportation. You can use it to teach listening and speaking. Here are some suggestions:

Listening:
1. List down the types of transportation in the clip. Categorize them into land, water or air transport
2. State the sounds they can hear in the recording
3. Prepare the script and omit a few words (for pupils to listen and fill in the blanks)

Speaking:
1. Debate about the advantages/disadvantages of land, water and air transport
2. Brainstorm on how to reduce the traffic in big cities

Another Friday...

It's the second Friday in ELTC. Today we're learning how to do podcasting and right now we're downloading videos from Youtube. I'm waiting for mine to finish download. I've chosen one video from the late Yasmin Ahmad. This video reminds us that everyone is beautifully imperfect. I wish I could just upload this video right now but the line is slow. But hey, I shouldn't complain. We don't have internet for the past few days. Yesterday was even worse, no electricity!

Today I'm going home. It's my mom's turn this weekend. My husband will pick me up from the bus station and we're going to pack "kerepek" to be sold before Hari Raya.

Keep in touch everyone!

Right now I'm in ELTC, sitting in the ICT class. So let's see where this leads...
I'm enjoying the journey.
So much things to do but so little time... HOWEVER
I'm going home today.
